Exploring Gender Equality and Career Development: Graduate School Seminar for Female Students Held at Sophia University (June 26, 2025)

ジェンダー平等とキャリア形成を考える:女子学生向け大学院進学セミナーを開催(2025年6月26日)

On June 26, 2025, Sophia University hosted a seminar titled “Career Development and Graduate School Pathways for Female Students,” supported by the 30% Club Japan University Group. The event explored the significance of graduate education in shaping the careers of female students from multiple perspectives.

As a UNESCO Chair institution, Sophia University actively supports UNESCO’s mission to promote gender equality through education. In 2025, the Global Education Monitoring Report Team released the 2025 Gender Report (link here2025 Gender Report | Global Education Monitoring Report), which reaffirms the importance of women’s leadership in the field of education.

In response to this report, Sophia University held the seminar to highlight the value of lifelong learning and its relevance to gender equality. The event also aligned closely with the university’s UNESCO Chair theme: “Education for Human Dignity, Peace, and Sustainability.”

The seminar addressed a common concern among students in the humanities—hesitation to pursue graduate studies due to uncertainty about employment prospects. Speakers emphasized that graduate education provides long-term benefits for career development. Alumni of master’s programs and corporate representatives shared concrete examples of how the critical thinking and experiences gained in graduate school have positively impacted their professional lives.

Participants expressed that the seminar helped ease their concerns about further education and empowered them to consider their future paths with greater confidence. The event proved to be a meaningful opportunity to deepen understanding and interest in graduate studies.
